A Legacy of Unity and Service
The founding members initially joined forces under the Ugonwanne International Women’s Association, which focused on supporting the less privileged. However, when visions diverged, these determined women forged a new path—first as Sisters of Peace, eventually evolving into the dynamic organization known today as the Igbo United Sisters of America.
Our name, Igbo United Sisters, defines our identity—a bonded and empowered sisterhood of Igbo women. Our guiding slogan, “Onulu ube nwanne agbana oso” (“He who hears the cry of his brother must not run away”), reflects our unwavering values of compassion, unity, and responsibility.
