About IUSA

Preserving culture, fostering sisterhood, and serving humanity since 2019

Our Origin Story

The Igbo United Sisters of America (IUSA) was founded in 2019 by a visionary group of 24 women, proudly honored as the Founding Members. These trailblazing women, all Igbo by birth and residing in the United States, came together with a united purpose: to preserve the rich Igbo culture, foster genuine sisterhood, and serve the underprivileged—both within the U.S. and across Nigeria.

The founding members initially joined forces under the Ugonwanne International Women’s Association, which focused on supporting the less privileged. However, when visions diverged, these determined women forged a new path—first as Sisters of Peace, eventually evolving into the dynamic organization known today as the Igbo United Sisters of America (IUSA).

Our name, Igbo United Sisters, defines our identity—a bonded and empowered sisterhood of Igbo women. Our guiding slogan, “Onulu ube nwanne agbana oso” (“He who hears the cry of his brother must not run away”), reflects our unwavering values of compassion, unity, and responsibility.

At IUSA, everyone is someone.
